You’re probably wondering who this is, in your email inbox, granted my new name.
RIP inside amy’s mind and WELCOME *drum roll please* in her own word!!
I made this big decision last night to change my entire website name. I also decided to cut my hair the shortest its ever been today. I made the decision at 11:10am and was in the salon chair by 12pm.
Things are moving fast folks, keep up!
I wanted to separate myself and my name from my words. I started this page in my most introverted era, pondering the depths of existence and what life means to me. I truly was inside my own mind all of the time.
I want to make a more conscious effort to get outside of myself and bring my thoughts/experiences into the real world.
I also love the play on words. In Her Own WorLd? In Her Own WordS? So fun!
I don’t want my essays to be perceived solely through the lens of people who know me, who know who “amy” is. My revelations are yours, too.
That being said, Inside Amy’s Mind is nearing the 4th anniversary in January (CRAZY!!!) and while I wanted to wait until then to create this post, I also deem it important to give ode to my very, first baby.
I find it so beautiful that I have a public showcase of my raw thoughts and different time periods that I have lived through the entirety of my twenties, and I find pride in staying consistent with this project that I once dreamt up in Italy 4 years ago.
Thank you to EVERYONE who has ever taken the time to read a bit of my mind, and supporting me through this vulnerable journey.
Nothing will be changing here except for my name, and probably many aspects of who I am actually, naturally. We know that change is inevitable.
Anyways, let’s take a trip down memory lane and look through my past.
Below are my favorite excerpts from each of my posts created under the name “Inside Amy’s Mind”. These will be in 5 different categories, rather than chronologically, that you can also find on each tab of my updated site.
Love you so much. Whoever you are, wherever you are.
I hope you are smelling fresh air as we speak.
STARRY STORIES: a compilation of self-expression, poetry, prose & creative non-fiction
Excerpt from: Do We Really Know Each Other?
“Everyone has thoughts never shared, moments never seen, and feelings never expressed. I can’t tell if that’s beautiful or morose. Disheartening or riveting. Oh, that sweet sweet battle between mind and heart, ego and love.”
Excerpt from: Bookmark This
“I could’ve been anybody I wanted to be that night, but I chose me - present me. I felt more like myself talking to strangers in a foreign land than at home with people I’ve known forever.”
Excerpt from: I Wonder
“I wonder if its true. Do we all see the same color? Is my green your blue?”
Excerpt from: Simultaneous Stories
“Right now. As you read this. Miley Cyrus is living and breathing somewhere, doing whatever she does. Adam Sandler, Harry Styles, Monks, Criminals. What are they all doing in this very moment? There is a zookeeper feeding a giraffe, a grandma sewing, two people going on their first date and a pilot flying a plane (full of other simultaneous stories too). Right now. Call it Main Character Syndrome, but I think most of us forget that it’s not just our stories happening. Instead, its 7 billion. Simultaneously.”
Excerpt from: A Hot Summer Day
“I close my eyes, and I’m under water, twisting and turning swiftly. Feeling like the only person alive, while simultaneously feeling so small, shrinking my own thoughts and worries, letting them drift away with the water.”
Excerpt from: The Human Experience
“Humans at heart are simple creatures, who end up choosing complexity in many different notions of everyday lives.”
Excerpt from: there she is again
“When my inner child feels safe enough to come so near, I know love and comfort and warmth must be here.”
Excerpt from: the world within
“thoughts then provoke and thoughts then overtake
to say feelings are intangible is a great mistake
For there exists a magnitude, a universe of emotion all within
within the depths of the soul
within each trace of tissue
sometimes it seeps out, sometimes it takes control”
Excerpt from: on a quest for divinity
“I’m on a quest for divinity. Have you met her?
I thought I heard her knocking on my door.
But I wasn’t sure.”
GROWING PAINS: deep thoughts, healing trauma, i’m getting older, my frontal lobe is developing & life is crazy
Excerpt from: January 16th
“A year ago today I couldn’t even imagine a future, and today I am more than excited for it.”
Excerpt from: Grieving Yourself
“One day I hope to meet the version of myself who no longer grieves her old self, because she is wise enough to hold them all inside of her. She is them all. “
Excerpt from: The Last Page
“Love and loss, love and loss. The continuing and persistent notions of life, they will remain, no matter what pages you find yourself in within the story of your life. There will always be an infinite amount. We will never love loss, but we can never lose love. The yin and yang to life is right there, right here beneath our noses.”
Excerpt from: Writers Block
“I have streams of countless and endless thoughts running through my head ALL DAY LONG but crickets start mocking me as soon as I lay my hands on my keyboard.”
Excerpt from: A Tribute to 21
“I enjoy being in the midst of pure youth. Invincible from wrinkles and responsibility. The lack of seriousness and meal prepping.”
Excerpt from: The Dancing Ghost
“In an instant, my mind stopped navigating, my heart beat grew louder and all ballerinas, the ones trapped in snow globes, stopped turning.”
Excerpt from: Something Worth Missing
“I have this written in my notes app from January 2018:
‘I don’t want to forget late night car rides with my friends. All blasting music and singing along to the best songs. This is the best feeling and I don’t want it to end’
It’s a blessing and a curse to live so deeply in the present moment that you’re aware it’ll become a warm, vivid memory one day.”
Excerpt from: Feel the Rain
“The heat of anger began to melt the ice away from the glass. Water drops slowly down, racing each other, sometimes colliding on the way. Grief. A feeling I thought I’d be good at by now.”
Excerpt from: Quarter Life Crisis
“Lily, my newest friend from Seattle, paid her boyfriend $5000 to quit his job out of jealousy. He didn’t quit his job and she immediately regretted it. But all seems good, they just came back from camping!”
LOVE LETTERS: I love me, I love you, I love them
Excerpt from: A Love Letter
“I love how in every new place you go to, you find a new sense of belonging, imagining yourself living there.”
Excerpt from: It's The Thought That Counts
“I think everyone is on the shared pursuit of love. It’s one thing universally, that we all seek individually. We love, love. Who doesn’t? How can you not? Unless you’ve ran so far, and so fast at the first sight of vulnerability that you are now in the cosmos, without gravity. Even then, I am almost certain I would easily fall in love with the cosmos. Venus would be my new boyfriend.”
Excerpt from: The Scenic Route
“On our stomachs about to read together he turns to me, squinting from the bright sun overhead and says “Welcome home” as he sees me glance over my shoulder to take in the last moment of my Washington view.”
Excerpt from: I've Seen You Here Before
“But I’ve seen you here, wiping my tears. I’ve shared my company with you as my red, swollen eyes go down, so only you and I know we’ve been crying. I’ve seen you here before, early in the morning. When you’re too lazy to even touch my face. When that shared inner voice is just a yawn. We both agree - its too early for thoughts.”
Excerpt from: I Am Me
“I have a big heart. Because of my brother. I move with love because his heart over takes him. I learned how to penny board because I thought he was so cool skateboarding. I started a journal early on, because I used to sneak into his room and read his when he wasn’t home. I love sour candy and spicy snacks and WaWa breakfast sandwiches because they all remind me of him. I’m a good listener because he tells me everything. Trust is important in relationships.”
Excerpt from: Friends ARE Food
“To be surrounded by people, ready to give you their love is an enriching feeling. You know, maybe love can be found in everything, in everybody, everywhere. You just have to be willing to jump into it.”
DETOX DIARIES: be better & think more
Excerpt from: Your Ego is Lying to you
“Once you stop watering your ego, you can finally hydrate your true inner being- who is probably so desperately ready to bloom. “
Excerpt from: Smile :)
“With that being said, I’m not advising you to smile more, but just to smile like you mean it. And one day, you will. But for now, maybe put a pencil in between your teeth :)”
Excerpt from: Passion for Fashion
“Fashion is about individuality, choice and expression of identity. The best thing about it is your style can change every single day, every hour if you’re up for that much laundry. It’s identity that we don’t have to hang onto, because at the end of the day these clothes are coming off, and we’ll be left to the clean canvas of skin.”
Excerpt from: Action not distraction
“The other week I met a new friend and she was describing to me her dependency on apps like Tik Tok and Instagram. I said to her how you’ll never hear anyone say they have regret towards deleting or taking a break from social media. Ever.”
Excerpt from: Take your shoes off
“You do belong here, there, wherever you are, or wherever you wish to be. And you do deserve to find your home. Home to me is where you can keep your shoes at the front door. And yours are always welcome at mine. P.s. I like your socks.”
Excerpt from: A Sensitive Subject
“When you call a skinny person, skinny its the same as calling a fat person, fat. Unnecessary, probably damaging, and completely uncalled for.”
Excerpt from: Take Care of Yourself
“Slow down, take the time to re-evaluate how you’re feeling and re-assess your goals. Take full advantage of these “inside months” but challenge yourself to remain intentional with your time. It’s easy to fall victim to doom-scrolling and rotting in your bed.”
AUTHORS AVENUE: learn about me as I learn about me
Excerpt from: Who, What, Where, When and Why
“I’ve always loved writing, I may not be good at it, but I think if you love something so much it can still transpire into some peoples hearts somehow. And that’s really all I want to do.”
Excerpt from: Season 2
“My cat is knocking at my door and I’m at peace, listening to the hard raindrops hit the wooden roof above me. The best sound, and has come to be my favorite, living here in the rainiest place of all.”
Excerpt from: An Enlightened Purpose
“That’s what’s so beautiful about airplanes; a plethora of stories in the same setting, crossing for a brief interval of time, to solemnly see again. Stories you come amongst, but hardly get the chance to summarize.”
Excerpt from: Coastal Clarity
“From coast to coast, it’s like the Earth opened up it’s arms from the East to the West, wrapped it’s loving arms around me and whispered to me signals of peace, reminders of love and reasons for gratitude.”
Excerpt from: A Run-On Sentence
“The labels we place on ourselves are so funny. I can write and own a blog without writing consistently, right? I can love the beach, be fun and easy-going without living on the beach, right? I can love and create a home here, whilst being homesick right?”
Excerpt from: Duck!
“Who was going to tell me how cool, pretty, funny, understanding, likeable and kind-hearted I am? I have truly been riding on such a high of self-love. Are these new traits? Or is my frontal lobe just near done developing?”
