I couldn’t quite make out the noise.
Little hums and haws tapped me on the shoulder,
and my heart skipped to the beat.
I grew envious of the sun and the moon—
they were the ones who kissed you to sleep,
who shined that sparkle of light,
twinkling in your eye.
Over warm, morning coffee,
my cheeks turned to rose.
You spun through my mind’s eye,
and I twirled around the thought of you,
a little dizzy,
a little breathless.
Dreams at night are hard to wake from,
as stars often take your shape—
that is, until dawn arrives,
and the song becomes clear.
The love bug hums aloud,
and before I know it,
I’m swaying to the melody,
humming along,
catching myself mid-tune.
